No I'm not promoting the new Superman movie. I am talking about the other big story of the summer. The ever rising cost of gasoline. Just when things looked promising for summer travel, the price of gas shot up again.
According to the AAA fuelgauge report, the national average for unleaded gas is now at $2.96 per gallon. Where that might seem a bit bothersome, what I find more disturbing is that the cost one year ago was $2.32 per gallon. For over a year we have been shelling out over $2.00 a gallon for gasoline and truthfully there seems to be no end in sight to these high prices.
What are we to do as average consumers? We could run out and buy a hybrid vehicles? Ideally this would work. We would save enormous amounts of gasoline this summer and help reduce those nasty carbon emissions. Unfortunately, not everyone has the ability to purchase a new car.
For those of us who don't have the option of purchasing something new, and more efficient, there are some things we can do to help ease the pain we feel at the pump.
The way we drive can actually increase or decrease our fuel efficiency. Taking simple steps such as cleaning out our cars, accelerating properly, and maintaining our cars properly can go a long way in helping to save gas and money.
